Hey, Melissa-it's Anne, Sally's mom. I'm the mom in "Mom's Sewing Vault" My part was in the beginning of her blog, and it was short and sweet. I have read your whole blog, and continue to follow it. I am so impressed with your efforts and accomplishments. The most striking part to me it that you seem so happy! I have developed bad knees, bad sciatica on both sides, have fibromyalgia (possibly chronic Lyme Disease), can barely walk and am in general not a happy camper. But you do inspire me! I am so happy FOR you, and your family. I came to be overweight in the first four months of my marriage; I went on a birth control pill (in 1967) which was all synthetic progesterone, I gained forty pounds that first four months, had been, for years walking about four to five miles a day, out of necessity, which ended the day I got married, as student housing was about five miles away from campus. I sank into a deep depression and the weight gain slowed after the first four months, but it continued on at the rate of 2-3 pounds a month, which contributed to more depression and the cycle inched on. I read your entries on what you eat, after a woman was going to try the food without the lap-band surgery. I now have no insurance, either, like that woman, but I also want to try the food ideas of your eating plan. In the meantime, your progress, I say again, is so inspiring. I loudly applaud you. And your family looks so good, and amazing. Rachel is so big, I wouldn't have recognized her.
Anne, I knew who you were just from your name! :) I've been so thankful for Sally in my life. Thanks for giving birth to her.
I'm glad you've enjoyed reading my blog. You are correct that I am happy. In fact, for the first part of this journey, the fast and exciting weight loss, I felt positively giddy. It has been amazing.
Good luck with the eating plan. I think it should be modified a bit. For example, if you're getting 60-80 grams of protein, the goal of less than 20 grams of fat is not realistic. You might try sparkpeople.com and see what their recommendations are for eating guidelines as well.
I don't know your whole situation, but you might be interested to know that Medicaid reportedly will pay for the Lapband.
Thanks for responding and I'm glad you're enjoying my blog.
